Thanks for visiting this site and exploring my work. Feltmaking is my passion, and creating one-of-a-kind felted fashions is the natural extension of my clothing design and sewing business, Innovative Fashions, established in 1997.
I’ve been sewing all my life, starting as a young girl making hats for my dolls. Years later I studied couture, costume design, and millinery in the U.S. and abroad. By combining honed design and sewing skills with felt’s versatility I specialize in imaginative garments and accessories that are finely detailed and tailored.
I’ve studied feltmaking far and wide, connecting with world-renowned experts over the years. Among them, Norwegian feltmaker May Hvistendahl helped advance my nuno-felting skills in which I combine wool with woven silk to create lightweight clothing that drapes fluidly on the body. Examples of my nuno-felt creations are displayed in the Gallery and are featured in the Winter 2009 issue of Threads magazine. A few of my pieces were also recently published in 1000 Artisan Textiles: Contemporary Fiber Art, Quilts, and Wearables by Sandra Salamony and Gina M. Brown. (You can view the cover here.)
As much as I love to study and explore feltmaking, I’m also thrilled teaching it. I offer both group Workshops and personalized instruction at my studio in northern Vermont. I also travel to teach classes.
Who knows where feltmaking will take me next? I’ll never retire, I’m having too much fun!
